New e-book focuses on minimizing
‘culture clash’ for Mexico travelers
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (02/11/06) -- “50 Things You Must Know Before You Travel to Mexico” spotlights ways to minimize the unexpected frustrations and irritations of ‘culture clash’ for anyone traveling to Mexico.
“I’ve seen so many people come to Mexico for a short visit, or even to retire here, and they end up getting angry and upset because they really had no idea how different things really are here,” says the book’s author, James Truett, a former Associated Press Writer who has lived in Mexico for more than 10 years. “Despite Mexico’s proximity to the U.S., once you’re across the border, you’re definitely not in Kansas anymore.”
The 105-page downloadable e-book, offered by TrueStar Publishing for $19.95, is packed with practical information only a long-time resident would know after years of frustrating and expensive trial and error.
“I wanted to write something that would fill in areas not covered in travel guides and brochures,” says Truett, originally from Alaska. “Too many people arrive here without a clue about how life really is, and it’s a rude awakening. My book prepares them and greatly reduces many of the frustrations they encounter.”
Award-winning writer Bruce Berger, a part-time resident of Mexico for 30 years, reviewed the book.
“’50 Things You Must Know Before You Travel to Mexico’ is so full of vital information that even someone who has lived in Mexico for years can learn from it,” says Berger. “For the newcomer to Mexico, reading this book is a necessary act.”
In the book, Truett addresses the many seemingly simple tasks that often confound, frustrate and irritate newcomers to Mexico, such as exchanging currency without getting ripped off, using credit cards safely, and ways to keep in touch with family and friends without running up a huge long distance bill.
In addition to sections on how to handle financial matters, communications, personal safety, basic legal and cultural issues, Truett also offers an extensive and enlightening epilogue with social commentary on Mexican life and culture.

To promote his book, Truett has written a free Special Report on a topic that crosses every Mexico traveler’s mind at some point. The report is called “Taming Montezuma Before He Puts You on the Run: A Guide to Preventing Travelers Diarrhea.” The 15-page report, with the latest tips for avoiding Montezuma’s Revenge, is available for free download at: Montezuma's Revenge
